Adjustable screws support the Ez-Fret over the first three frets on your guitar. The screws have a rubber cap on the end to protect the guitar.  18 buttons with bumpers allow you to fret all the 6 strings using the first three frets. Now, I know you are eager to get started.  A little care and effort during the installation will pay off. Once you have completed the following adjustments, the Ez-Fret can be reinstalled in about a minute.  Good Luck!

1.  Using a small Phillips screwdriver, adjust the length of each screw below the bottom of the plate as follows:  rear and left screws, the thickness of 3 stacked quarters; right screw, slightly more than the thickness of 4 stacked quarters. Looking down at the plate, the two screws are at the front, the single screw is at the back.

2.   Place the Ez-Fret on the neck of your guitar with its back very slightly ahead of the nut, and the back screw between strings 3 and 4.The front two screws should be placed an equal distance from strings 1 and 6, and the front edge of the bumpers should be exactly over the frets. Gently strum the strings.  The front screws should not interfere with the vibrating strings.

3.  Hook a #32 rubber band (about 3” long) on the right front cleat, pull it under the neck of the guitar, and hook it onto the left front cleat.  Do the same at the rear. The Ez-Fret is now temporarily secured so you can make the final adjustments of the screws.

4.  Strongly pluck each string.  The sound should be clear, with no buzzing against the bumpers. If there is buzzing, lift up the right hand corner of the Ez-Fret and lengthen that screw ½ turn with the screwdriver.  Pluck the strings again. Continue till the buzzing completely stops. When you are finished, the right side of the Ez-Fret will be very slightly higher over the strings than the left side. This is because thicker strings have a grater vibrating distance. The screw adjustment is now completed, and you are now ready to firmly attach the Ez-Fret.

5.   Sit on a chair, and set the body of the guitar on another chair.  Rest the tuning end on your knee.  Unhook the rubber band from the left front cleat, and, using your left hand stretch the rubber band downward below the neck of the guitar till it is about 10” long.  Keeping the rubber band stretched, hook it around the left front cleat.  Then bring the stretched band below the neck of the guitar. Grasp the end of the band with your right hand, and hook it over the right front cleat.  During this process, the tension in the band should not change. You may have to try this several times till you get it right.  Repeat this procedure at the back of the Ez-Fret.

6.  You are finished!  Each string should sound clearly, as if the Ez-Fret were not there.

Installation of the Ez-Fret® Guitar Attachment:

1. Remember, the Ez-Fret is only for those who have made a powerful effort to fret the strings without it.  Also, for those who don’t want callouses on their fingers. It is like a wheel chair or crutch - use only if you have to.  Whatever path you take, a great effort lies ahead.  This device is the Ez-Fret, not the Ez-Play.

2.  You will probably be playing in the “guitar keys” of “C “( C   F  G7 ) , “D” ( D  G  A7), “E” ( E  A  B7),  “G” ( G  C  D7) and “A” ( A  D  E7).  As you will find out, some of these keys, specifically D and A are much easier to play.  You might limit yourself to these two keys, at least to start. You can retune, lowering each string by a full note. Then, using the same fingering, you will be playing in “C” and “G”.

3.   If you are playing basic chords in a particular key, not all buttons are needed.  You can remove the unneeded buttons by pulling up strongly on the button, and the bumper will detach. This may make some of the chords easier to play. Please do this over a bowl, as I guarantee that, if you don’t, the bumper and spring will roll away and get lost.  Please store these small parts securely, and keep them away from little children!

4.  The Ez-Fret can be used on left handed guitars, but the fingering will be different.

     5.      The scales of “C” and “F” are available with standard EADGBD tuning.

     6.       I recommend “The Guitar Handbook” by John Denyer.  Also, buy a chromatic tuner.

     7.      If you lose a rubber cap for the screw, a small piece of paper, about the thickness of a matchbook cover, can be placed under the screw to protect your guitar.

Thank you for being an Ez-Fret Pioneer!  There are about 20 million “guitar players” in the USA. I do hope that this device will be able to help the 20 million, more or less, who have tried the guitar and given up due to finger pain.  If you are happy with the Ez-Fret, you can increase its use by sending a review to Amazon.  By encouraging the use of the EZ-Fret, new ideas will develop which will help you!
